Born in Taiwan in 1939, Timmy began playing classical guitar at the age of 13 practicing up to eight hours a day.  At 19, he switched from classical music to rock ‘n roll and formed one of Taiwan’s first rock bands.

After being discharged from the military, Timmy joined the American military jazz band which marked the beginning of his career.  In 1962, Downbeat magazine of the U.S. named him the best Asian jazz guitarist outside of Japan.  Timmy eventually moved to piano and improved his skills through records, music and watching the techniques of accomplished pianist.  He attributes his mastery of the obligato and the complex counter lines in his piano playing to Klaus Pringsheim, his mentor, who he studied under while attending Musashino Music Conservatory in Japan.

Timmy is recognized as a versatile keyboard artist and is also a respected pianist in south-east Asia.  During his years in Taiwan, he was a professor of the Music Department in Soochow University and also served as the president of the Taiwan Musician Union, the largest in the nation, for three years.  Timmy has also hosted jazz program on Taipei’s local armed forces radio network.  Not only is Timmy a great musician, he is also a linguist and speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese and English.

Timmy immigrated with his family to Los Angeles in 1985 and continues to play and teach piano.  He is currently a certified examiner of Yamaha Piano and Organ 3rd to 5th Performance Grade Test.
